The Heart, Mind and Soul of a Teenager

The Friday Family Night Program witnessed a large turnout on December 4th, as a crowd of over 120 brothers and sisters showed up this week to attend the program and listen to the presentation given by Sr. Wana Sekander concerning some of the common issues teenagers and the parents of teenagers go through and face on regular bases.

The program started with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30, the audience enjoyed a beautiful recitation of Surat Al-Mursalat by Sr. Noor Ahmad followed by the tafseer of the surah by Imam Mohamed Abdul-Azeez. Then It was Sr. Wana's turn to begin her presentation.

Sr. Wana Sekander started her presentation by explaining some the terms she would be using in her presentation followed by a brief history of the study of teenagers' behavior and development. She then proceeded to explain several of the development stages different areas of the brain of a teenagers goes through and how each one affects the behaviors of teenagers. From there she went on to discuss how both teenagers and their parents can deal with a lot of the issues that arise between them through the teen years. Sr. Wana concluded her presentation by talking about faith and the important role faith plays in a teenager's life and how it could help teenagers and their parents have a better relationship with each other.
