SALAM Board of Trustees Announcement
The SALAM Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Sr. Arwa Houry as SALAM’s Interim Executive Director.
Sr. Arwa is no stranger to SALAM or the Sacramento community. Her journey with SALAM began in 2009 as a full-time school parent. Over the years, she has remained actively involved, supporting the Muslim community through her professional work and partnerships with various nonprofits.
Since officially joining SALAM’s leadership team in October 2023 as Community Engagement Manager, she has demonstrated outstanding leadership, deep commitment, and a strong passion for community building. As her responsibilities have grown, so has her positive impact, bringing both structure and creativity to the management of programs, events, and communications. Insha’a Allah, we are confident that she will bring that same energy and vision to her new role, and we invite you to join us in warmly welcoming Sr. Arwa as she steps into this important leadership position.
The Executive Director position has remained vacant for nearly two years. During this transitional period, the Board of Trustees has worked closely with SALAM’s leadership team to maintain operations and implement key initiatives. We are deeply grateful for the community’s patience, encouragement, and continued support during this time of renewal and growth. Together, we remain committed to strengthening SALAM as a model American Islamic Center, one that reflects our Islamic values, serves our community needs, and inspires future generations.
