First-Day Assessment Guidelines
Objective: To assess each student’s current level based on the previous grade’s curriculum and determine if a student should be moved up or down by one grade level.
Note: Students will only be considered for movement one level higher or lower than their current placement.
Assessment Format:
Quran & Arabic: Individual assessment (one student at a time while others work on independent or group activities).
Islamic Studies: Group activities/discussions to gauge overall understanding.
Assessment Activities:
Quranic Recitation (Group Activity):
- Activity: Have the students recite a Surah together or in small groups. Listen for fluency and correct pronunciation.
- Observation Criteria: Identify students who struggle with recitation and those who excel. Note areas where the class as a whole may need improvement.
Arabic Reading & Writing (Individual)
Activity:
- Reading: Provide a short passage or set of words to read aloud.
- Writing: Ask the student to write a few dictated words or short sentences.
What to Look For:
- Accuracy in recognizing letters and words
- Ability to connect letters properly
- Understanding of basic vocabulary
Islamic Studies Discussion (Group Activity):
- Activity: Lead a discussion on a topic from the previous grade’s curriculum, such as a story of a Prophet. Ask open-ended questions to engage the class and assess their understanding.
- Observation Criteria: Monitor participation and comprehension. Take note of students who show confidence or may need further support.
Teacher Observation Guidelines
Record each student’s Quran & Arabic performance individually.
For Islamic Studies, note the general group level but also highlight individual strengths or struggles if observed.
Identify students who may need a grade adjustment (up or down by one level).
Recommendation Protocol
Complete the First-Day Assessment Form.
Do not discuss grade changes with parents. The administration will handle all communication regarding placements.
Submit your form to the admin team by the end of the first day.
