Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM) is seeking a diligent and proactive Office Manager. This managerial position is a key member of SALAM’s operations team and is primarily responsible for the administrative management of SALAM offices. SALAM serves a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-generational community in Sacramento, California.

The candidate must be amiable in interaction with people of all creeds and faiths and must have a good grasp of Islamic values, and be able to demonstrate conformity to such values with full confidence.

General Description

The Office Manager is required to work during pre-arranged regular office hours. In addition, the Office Manager may be required to be present during some evening and weekend community functions. The Office Manager must also be prepared to work extra hours during the month of Ramadan.

The Office Manager will be required to successfully complete a six-month probationary period, at which time their performance will be reviewed. Responsibilities will be conducted in accordance with SALAM’s Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws; both are based on the teachings of the Islamic faith.

Duties of the Office Manager

Religious and Social Services Management

  • Field phone calls and requests from SALAM stakeholders
  • Manage, monitor, and update SALAM’s online presence: Including but not limited to SALAM’s website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube page, and LinkedIn profile
  • Maintain and organize office documents, supplies, and records.
  • Manage intake of zakat applications
  • Manage office supplies and orders
  • Process facilities usage requests
  • Support programs and activities at SALAM, especially Jumuah, family and youth programs, Ramadan, and Eids
  • Assist with preparation, breakdown, and managing of events
  • Support the membership committee by maintaining and updating records and helping with member recruitment
  • Book travel for visiting guests
  • Assist with vendors as needed
  • Assist with Audio video setup as needed
  • Greet and host office guest
  • Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse core of volunteers to work on various committees and projects.
  • Report regularly to the Executive Director.
  • Be a team player and back up the Executive Director as needed.
  • Other assignments as designated by the Executive Director.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A combination of:
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • One year of performing similar administrative duties.
  • Competency in:
    • Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Google Suite: Docs, Sheets, slides, and forms
    • Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Excellent communication skills: the ability to work with multiple stakeholders in person, over the phone, or in writing using English.
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and time-bound environment.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task with ease and be a proactive problem solver.
  • Highly organized and reliable.
  • Some customer service experience.
  • Experience in managing volunteers.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing job requirements.
  • The candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in spoken Arabic and Pashto. Knowledge of other languages such as Urdu, Farsi, or Russian.
  • Graphic Design experience
  • Competency in:
    • Microsoft: Sharepoint, One Drive, Teams
    • Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
