SALAM’s Presentation at Cavitt Junior High School

For the second time in a row, SALAM was honored to be invited to make a presentation at Cavitt Jr High School on Islam and Muslims. This was done as part of their Religious Studies class.

The presentation took place on Friday, October 21, 2022. SALAM was invited to present for the first time on October 28, 2021. The school is considered among the best Middle Schools in California.

All 7th graders (170 students) participated in the 1 hr 15 min presentation in the school auditorium. The school Principal and many other staff members also attended. Br. Asif Haq, SALAM’s Learning Director, split the time between his talk and a Q&A session. The students were totally engaged, and almost half of the class wanted to ask questions. However, there was time to answer only 25 questions. 7th grade is perhaps the best level to initiate such presentations because students are in their formative stage and are beginning to develop their opinions and ideas.

SALAM continues to expand and enhance its outreach to educational institutions and places of worship. The presentations are made to raise awareness by presenting a factual and positive portrayal of Islam and demystifying and removing misconceptions about Islam and Muslims.

Most importantly, the principal, staff, and students loved the presentation. The teacher who invited us said he looks forward to future presentations. For me, it was a rich and rewarding experience.

Asif Haq
Learning Director
